HOW TO SELECT LAB SERIES PUMP-BODY LENGTH
The Lab Series is available in different pump-body lengths. Solution must be at least 0.5 inch (1.27 cm) above the Lab Series "Weep Hole" at all times, or the pump will not operate. See drawing at right.

Explanation: The Impeller is located just below the Weep Hole. Like the propeller of an outboard boat motor, the Impeller spins at high speed and cannot perform its task without liquid contact. See this link for photo explanation.

If you already have a Lab Series and want the exact same body length, measure the "A" Dimension (from bottom of Motor Base, where pump is mounted on tank, to the top of the Discharge Port, where solution is expelled from pump). The "A" Dimension is highlighted in yellow below. The adjacent table shows the corresponding pump-body length, which is the order number.

How To Select Lab Series Length for New Application
First, measure the freeboard (distance from top of tank to solution surface), then refer to the table below.

Lab Series with Filter Cartridge Attached
Next, measure the tank depth. Then see the table below to determine the maximum length filter cartridge that will fit in your tank. Most customers use either a 4- or 6-inch-long cartridge with the Lab Series.

Lab Series with Horizontal Filter Cartridge Attachment
Sometimes the tank is too shallow and/or the freeboard too extensive to use the Lab Series with filter cartridge in the conventional vertical position. In this event, the filter cartridge can be positioned horizontally in the tank using the Horizontal Cartridge Adapter (HCAL). The HCAL adds about 1 inch (2.54 cm) of length to the pump, as shown below. Click this link for HCAL and other Lab Series parts photos. Note that there are two cartridge diameters available for the Lab Series — 1.5 and 2.5 inches (3.8 and 6.35 cm). The 2.5-inch-diameter cartridge requires a Filter Adapter, which adds length. Lab Series with Strainer Instead of Filter Cartridge
If you want to use the Lab Series exclusively to recirculate and agitate the solution, and do not want a filter cartridge on the pump, you must install a Pump Strainer Adapter (PSAL) to protect the Impeller from damage due to any foreign objects that might be in solution. The PSAL adds about 1.5 inch (3.8 cm) of length to the pump, as shown below. Click this link for PSAL and other Lab Series parts photos.
